As I’m a big fan of MST, of course I’ve seen Manos: The Hands of Fate. It’s actually one of my favorite MST’s to watch, although it’s a bit painful to make it through.

This is an excellent review of the film by itself - which is rare. Most people only refer to Manos in terms of MST3K. It’s well written, illustrated, and quite funny.

I’ve written before about odd beverages. I thought I’d write again about something that just shouldn’t be right, but so is.

CoolTropics is the brand of drink, and this particular flavour is Irish Moss with Ginseng. It was in your local Lloyd’s patty’s Jamaican sweat factory and lunch bistro. There’s this little cooler, a third to half full, stocked with weird shit. Some of it just isn’t right. Anyway, this stuff is in a harmless little bottle. However, it’s a thick white liquid. It’s hard to describe - almost like pure cream, or shaving cream, or whipped cream - well, any kind of cream. This stuff is thick. And there are little things flecked throughout.

So, it was with some trepidation that I opened the bottle. To my immense suprise, this shit ROCKS. I really enjoyed it, and could have had a few right then. It’s almost worth going back to Lloyd’s just for this stuff.

If you see it anywhere, I highly recommend it. Apparently it’s a true Jamaican drink, so you might find it wherever you get Jamaican type stuff.

I was on my way to Jareds house to watch the hockey game. I had no intentions of drinking, nor had I been drinking or anything of the sort. I knew there would be a huge police presence on the roads, so I drove extremely carefully, not speeding, always signally, just like it was drivers ed.

Then I got pulled over not even 100M from the party:

I guess, I made an illegal right-hand turn. I did not see the signs, although, when I went back in the daytime, I did see the signs. But who looks for signs about a right-hand turn? I came to the intersection, it was a green light, I signals, I turned the corner, and the police were on me like a fat kid on a cupcake. The only way that was possible is if that cop was sitting there, waiting for me to do that, cause I looked in the mirror, no cops, I turn the corner, bam….rollers.

So, my question is this: Don’t the police have anything better to do on New Years Eve than hand out pointless tickets? Yes, I am paying taxes so that I can get pulled over for doing something that has been legal every single other time I have done it. Meanwhile, who knows who was where doing what, while this cop filled out my ticket. Useless. I know its the end of the month guys, but this is stupid.

Besides the $172 ticket, I also have to say I quite enjoyed the humilation of all of the rubber-neckers checking out the dude who was pulled over, no doubt assuming it was a DUI (it was December 31st, afterall). Yes, thanks for that.

If anyone can tell me a reason why this turn is illegal, please post a comment. I can’t figure it out at all. Just don’t make this mistake yourself….well, at least not in the last week of the month. Way to meet quota, coppers!
