Movie Review: Get Smart by Brett @ 11:28 pm on 30.06.08

I haven’t posted about the last few movies I’ve seen, ’cause I have agreed with rotten tomatoes’ reviews.  Ironman, for example:  It was awesome, go see it if you haven’t.  But this one?  53% and an “average summer flick”?  Nope.  I give this a solid 4/5.  (That’s around 80%, for those lacking in mad math skillz.)

The first really good review came from my genius of a sister, Lorah.  Tonight, I had the opportunity to check it out.  It rocked.  So, I’m passing this along because it’s very much worth catching in the theaters.

The movie is great.  It’s a great spy movie in that there are car chases, explosions, and toys.  Things blow up, there are lasers, and Bill Murray is a tree.  There are a tonne of excellent actors/actresses and they all do a good job.  Steve Carell is fantastic, and his comedic timing is perfect in this movie.  It’s quick witted, and has a wide range of humour.  You get what you get, and likely will be laughing out loud quite a few times during the flick.  Oh, and you get to see the preview for The Dark Knight.  It’s a long preview.  It’s awesome.

There’s also a villain who is very much like Jaws from the Bond series.  Well, except he didn’t have metal teeth. But his involvement in this flick is very similar to Jaws’ involvement in Moonraker and The Spy Who Loved Me. I don’t know why this is important - it just IS.

It’s the mark of a good movie, when it ended and I would have been perfectly happy to keep watching it.  If you’re looking for something funny to watch - so you can kick back, laugh, and forget about the world - this is a safe bet.

Epic Failure! by Brett @ 1:07 am on 18.06.08

Brent shared a pretty funny image from failblog about someone asking about a “video rental store for books”.

If you don’t feel like going and checking out the link, here’s the post:

was just thinking.  my sister does -alot- of reading, and spends like $1000 a year on just books alone.  most of them she reads once then never looks at again.  is there any kind of like … video rental store but for books?  would make things alot cheaper, plus once one person has read one the next person can get enjoyment from it etc

Okay.  That’s pretty funny.  So, I sent it around, and got a very wonderful reply from someone who shall remain nameless:

The humor of that unfortunately escapes me, but at least I’m not too afraid to admit it. The idea in that post sounds good, though finding a decent implementation could be fun.. Maybe NetFlix for books or something could work. Not that I’d wanna build that company. I’d actually worry about germ stuff like people excreting in undetectable quantities on their books and infecting my NetFlixBooks mail router monkies with some kind of flu. lol.

And that, my friends, is what we call an Epic Failure.
